Overview
EthereumPoW (ETHW) is a hard fork of the Ethereum blockchain that emerged from Ethereum's transition to proof-of-stake (PoS) during the Merge, which aimed to enhance efficiency. Initially proposed by Vitalik Buterin in 2013 and launched in 2015, Ethereum became a key player in decentralized finance and smart contracts, leading to the creation of Ethereum Classic (ETC) after the 2016 DAO hack. The Merge integrated Ethereum's consensus and execution layers, shifting away from proof-of-work (PoW). ETHW serves as the native cryptocurrency of the EthereumPoW blockchain, used for transactions and miner rewards, with a total and circulating supply of 107,818,999 units as of January 2024. Despite inheriting Ethereum's circulating supply at the time of the fork, the staking mechanism on Ethereum left about 13.7 million ETH inaccessible on the ETHW chain, effectively reducing its circulating supply.
