Overview

Obol is a pioneering infrastructure protocol focused on enhancing the decentralization and resilience of Ethereum's consensus layer through the implementation of Distributed Validators (DVs). By enabling multiple independent operators to collaboratively run a single Ethereum validator using cryptographic coordination, Obol significantly mitigates the risks of single-point failures and operator centralization. At the heart of its technology is Charon, an HTTP middleware that allows any existing Ethereum validator client to integrate with the distributed validator framework. The Obol Stack offers developers and staking services the ability to deploy DVs seamlessly, while maintaining non-custodial control and minimizing trust assumptions. To support the ecosystem, Obol has launched various community and developer-oriented programs such as the Grants Program and Retroactive Funding (RAF) to incentivize projects contributing to Ethereum's decentralization. Additionally, Obol integrates smart contract-based reward sharing mechanisms through Obol Splits, which enable fair and transparent distribution of rewards among DV participants. Governance of the protocol is community-driven, powered by the $OBOL token, which grants holders influence over strategic decisions, funding distribution, and protocol upgrades.
