Overview

PIVX(Protected Instant Verified Transaction or eXchange) is a decentralized, open-source blockchain and cryptocurrency project launched on January 30, 2016. It is community-driven, governed by a decentralized autonomous organization (DAO), and built on a customized version of Bitcoin's codebase. PIVX uses a Proof of Stake (PoS) consensus protocol, allowing coin holders to participate in network security by staking their coins, earning rewards, and ensuring decentralization. Its advanced PoS system includes Time Protocol v2 and Cold Staking, which enables secure staking even with coins stored offline. PIVX emphasizes privacy through the SHIELD protocol, an implementation of zk-SNARKs, providing anonymity in transactions without revealing source addresses or details. The zPIV protocol further enhances privacy by wrapping PIV coins for anonymous transfers. Masternodes play a key role in governance and transaction validation, ensuring fast confirmations via the off-chain SwiftX payment protocol. PIVX's wallet interface allows masternode owners to vote on development proposals directly, and the platform continues to develop new features aimed at improving decentralization, privacy, and financial data protection.
