Frequently Asked Questions

Takaful is an insurance concept, which provides protection based on Shariah principles. By contributing a sum of money to a common takaful fund in the form of contribution (Tabarru'), you will undertake a contract to become one of the participants by agreeing to mutually help each other, should any of the participants suffer a defined loss, while also benefiting from a share of any surplus declared.

Your contribution for coverage is pooled under one fund i.e. participant’s Takaful Fund and will be used to pay for any contingency should any of the members who participate in the scheme suffer any loss, be it on their property or life. Basically, each member essentially protects others by guaranteeing compensation from the Takaful Fund for the defined losses incurred by any members of the scheme.

Most Takaful providers allow you to pay your contributions through cash, cheque, credit card, auto debit from bank accounts, online banking, and salary deduction. However, do take note that the payment method may vary.

If you have a pre-existing medical condition, you should still be able to get Takaful Protection, i.e., Life Protection, Critical Illness Protection, Total and Permanent Disability (TPD), etc. However, not all providers will cover, and you may have to pay more in premiums for the policy. You also will most likely need to share additional medical information with the Takaful provider to help them understand the risk level of your condition. Note that it is important to declare any pre-existing medical conditions when taking out Takaful Protection because otherwise, providers can refuse to pay out for any claims.

You will be given time by certain providers to make up for missed payments without your policy being affected. Your policy will be cancelled if you miss payments and do not get in touch with your provider. This will cause you to not get back any of the money you have paid. Do contact your provider if you feel like you cannot keep up with payments.
